I’ve often sat at a bar, or any public place really and wondered what looked odd about that guy across the way. Is it the jacket that doesn’t really work with his outfit? Is it the shoes that are too big (sometimes) or could it just be the guy is funny looking?
Recently I realised that most often it’s the length of someone’s pants that can make them look a bit off or absolutely perfect.
Brilliantly fitting pants is the key to a well fitted and finished look.
A lot of people concern themselves with the upper body; how do the shoulders fit, is the waist snug and should you do the top or bottom button on your jacket? This is all relevant to consider but ignoring the bottom half of your look will leave you with pants that are crumpled at the ankle or that you’ve been walking on for weeks and are now ripped and shoddy looking.
But fear not, there is always help at hand. Here’s a nifty little graphic to help you out when thinking about pant lengths.
If you have a favourite suite, pair of denims or pants and you suspect they are too long then I suggest taking them to a tailor to fix up.
Current trends lean towards the quarter break or no break at all. If you’re trying to show of your new socks, then it’s best to go for one of these two. If you find yourself in a more conservative work environment and are not on the cutting edge of fashion, then you could make the half break work nicely.
The full break is a bit out of date for 2014 but if you must do it, at least make sure that the rest of your suit fits perfectly, that your shoes are shined and your NicSocks Subscription Socks are up to date!
